How to use Rose Absolute Oil

Rose Absolute is a decadent and floral essential oil.

Rosa Centifolia

Roses are a traditional symbol of romantic love, and have been cherished in cultures throughout history for their beauty, sweet smell and health properties.

The scent of a Rose is complex; you may detect floral aspects as well as citrus, honey, musk and spice. What you will smell will differ slightly from harvest to harvest because the elements the roses have been subjected to can make an impact on the delicate fragrance. Despite this, good quality Rose Absolute should always smell delightful.

rose essential oils is extracted from the petals of the plant

Historical records date Rosa Centifolia to 16th century France in the Grasse region. Grasse is located on the French Riviera and considered to be the world’s capital of perfume. The Centifolia genus is prized for its opulent and distinctly sweet scent which makes it the perfect flower to be utilised for the solvent abstraction of Rose Absolute.

The Centifolia genus is now more commonly grown in Morocco in a town called El Kelaâ M’Gouna, also known as The Valley of the Roses. A three day festival takes place here annually to celebrate the rose harvest and to give thanks for the beauty of nature.

Harvesting petals to make Rose absolute oil

The roses are carefully hand picked before sunrise on May mornings to carefully preserve the potent fragrance as it dissipates later in the day. Harvesting the roses is a labour intensive job as it reportedly takes up to 240,000 roses to make 5mls of rose oil, the painstaking process is reflected in the price of Rose Absolute which is one of the worlds most expensive and extravagant oils.
